Opportunity: Fundraising Consultant
Join our journey as we commission the development of a three-year Fundraising Strategy to secure our organisation.
Overview:
Bricks is a Bristol-based charity working with creative, local and social enterprise communities in and around the South West. We produce public artwork programmes, deliver creative collaborative activities and secure permanent spaces in the city to build sustainable futures. We believe in the civic role of artists and that through collaboration we can support communities to build mutually supportive resilience.
Operating from St Anne’s House, Bricks’ flagship project, the building represents a creative and community hub in St Annes, Bristol occupying 25,000 sq ft of ex office floorspace.
Working with local communities since 2019, we co-designed a future use model, took this to Bristol City Council, secured a community asset transfer and have been operating the building since 2021. We also write and lead and the development of programmes of creativity for new property developments. We work with developers, local authorities and local communities to create bespoke and locally lead public art programmes, this can take the form of permanent artworks, engagement events, live experiences, and the long-term curation and management of creative spaces.

Context:
Established in 2019, we now in our sixth year as a charity, and our fourth year at St Annes House we are gearing up for a phase of consolidation, long-term thinking and capital building works at St Anne’s House.
We have a good track record of realising statutory and trust funding on a project basis, including previous investment from Bristol City Council, Nisbet Trust and National Lottery Community Fund. In 2024/25, consolidated turnover for Bricks’ charity and trading subsidiary is projected to stand at £520,000.
Our capital project represents a unique, once in a generation opportunity to secure St Anne’s House, with and for our local community, planning is on going with key stakeholders; with a timeline starting in 2026/27.
Brief:
As we look to the future, Bricks is commissioning the development of a three-year Fundraising Strategy, representing a period from 2025/26 – 2028/29 to secure our organisation. We have an outline fundraising plan for the period, with anticipated income growing 20% year on year in line with our organisational ambition, but we now need to evaluate our assumptions and build a robust roadmap for the period. We need to identify opportunities to realise both core and multi-year funding to secure our organisation, whilst also realising continued project investment.
We would like a detailed analysis of our programme, assets, capacity and resource to understand opportunities to realise revenue income, as well as any future resource and organisational development required to secure investment.
To support the implementation of the developed 2025/26 – 2028/29 Fundraising Strategy, we also require immediate bid writing support to ensure we can continue momentum with our immediate fundraising plan with the benefit of critical input into our current fundraising bids.
Bricks’ team represents a strong range of skills and experience to lead current fundraising, supported by Bricks’ Board and Income Generation subcommittee. We have a minimum of three defined small – mid-scale bids which we expect this consultancy period to support the development of; in line with the budget available, we are open to a variety of ways of this support being delivered.
Deliverables:
- Information review and kick off meeting with Bricks’ team and stakeholders
- Review of revenue position and assets; evaluating of what is currently being raised, what could be raised toward revenue costs over a three-year period, and identification of key core / multi-year funding opportunities
- Review of Bricks’ current fundraising materials and development of enhanced Case for Support
- Prospect identification; snapshot profiles with pertinent cultivation recommendations (as appropriate) mapped by priority, with consideration of any future capital fundraising opportunities
- Development of income targets by type; including all relevant projected income from statutory, trust, individuals, corporate and in-kind sources
- Development of timeline and resources; detailed three-year roadmap for revenue, including recommendations on possible resourcing, networks and advocates
- Report and presentation; Fundraising Strategy to be presented as a detailed report, mapping and evaluating the defined areas with a series of reasoned recommendations for delivery; report to also be shared with Bricks’ team and stakeholders
- Defined bid writing support, for a minimum of three defined small – mid-scale bids
- Ongoing reporting and updates to Bricks’ CEO
Person Specifications:
- Proven experience of working within the arts, culture, creative industries and heritage sector
- Demonstrable experience developing fundraising strategies or detailed fundraising planning
- Proven experience of creating impactful fundraising materials to successfully leverage income, particularly from statutory and trust sources
- Strong research and writing skills; ability to gather, synthesise and analyse large amounts of information to both make robust recommendations on priorities and to make a compelling case for investment
- Preference for consultants within 100 miles of St Annes House to ease connection with site and team, though this is not a fixed requirement.
