St Anne’s House
St Anne’s House is a creative and community hub grown from the ambition of local communities in St Annes and creative communities in Bristol.
Here you will find creative and community projects, rooms to hire, a cooperatively run gym, play therapy, social prescribing, artist studios, co working, artist project space, theatre studios, massage therapy, wellbeing and much much more.
Our aim is to build community resilience, foster connections, grow local talent, inspire creativity, and provide a space to test out new ideas.
We started working with communities in St Annes in 2019 through invitation to explore the creative and community potential of part of St Anne’s House from the resident group that was bridging between St Mungos who were running a hostel on the ground floor and the communities of St Annes.
We worked through an Asset Based Community Development model, commissioning local resident and social practice artist to work with us to map local assets (people, places, activities) and help understand where the ambition was for the future of St Annes.
Through a process of creative projects, micro commissions, 121 conversations, surveys and group events we mapped what was happening in the area and co-designed with local people a future use vision and proposal for St Anne’s House.
After much negotation with the building’s owner Bristol City Council we ended up taking all three floors of St Anne’s House in June 2021 and have since been using, testing and developing the site as a creative and community hub.
A core part of our model is St Anne’s Action Group, a group of local residents that meet monthly to steer our work in St Annes and set the agenda for what St Annes is and will become.
