What Space Do You Need?
We are working with developers in Bristol and the West of England to explore how long term spaces for creativity and community can be created and secured in new developments.
This is an ongoing project, and we’re eager to hear from you! What kinds of spaces do you need in the city? Where should they be? What should they look and feel like? What would you use them for? How could they support your work, practice, or community?
Right now, these questions are exploratory. It’s less about any one specific location and more about shaping our collective vision for the future of creative and community spaces.
We’re interested in all types of uses: creative, social enterprise, community-focused, and more. Whether you’re looking for a studio to rent, a space for a temporary gallery, a rehearsal venue, or somewhere to start a new community initiative, we want to hear about your needs.
Maybe your idea already exists, or perhaps it’s a seed for something new. Either way, we’d love to hear from you. If your project would need additional support—like business planning or funding—tell us in the form.
The general approach we take follows the metaphor of ‘Companion Planting’ – co-locating activities for mutual benefit so that they grow stronger together with their different characteristics benefiting both their neighbours and the system as a whole. We explore this at St Anne’s House – where we see the benefit of a wide variety of projects sharing the same front door as part of one community – both for tenants and their beneficiaries – and imagine this happening across the city as a network, in different forms and at different scales.
