New Platform Art

RESEARCH / CONSULTANCY

New Platform Art commissioned Bricks to research the viability of rolling out their programme to South West England.

The research phase is now complete and we hope that this will roll out in to the South West in due course.

New Platform Art is an arts organisation which provides a scalable model for businesses to build their own arts programme and support emerging artists.

On one level it is a corporate art prize and office art scheme for the corporate, and on another it operates as a professional development programme, income generation and peer network for the artists.

New Platform Art work with the corporate to set up an Arts Group. The Arts Group work with a local curator (such as Bricks) to select work from local degree shows which are then rented from the artists for the next 12 months.

Benefits for businesses include:

  • A vibrant changing art collection in office environment (without the responsibilities of art ownership)
  • Increased engagement of staff and clients
  • CSR programme development, engaging with local creative communities and young people
  • CPD for colleagues engaging in programme
  • Profiling and PR

Benefits for artists include:

  • Income from the rent of their artworks
  • Professional development programme
  • Cross region networking and visits
  • Public group exhibition

Our research project assessed viability of a roll out to the South West with a particular focus on Bristol, Bath, Southampton and Plymouth.

We also explored how the benefits of the programme could reach non-graduates, including artists emerging from informal education programmes and in self-directed practice.

We connected with educational institutions, artist development projects and corporates that might want to be involved.

We were supported on this project by Visual Arts South West, who have acted as a critical friend to the research.

Update

Whilst the research stage is now completed we welcome conversations with corporates that may wish to host a project.
