The Tabernacle
The Tabernacle is being prepared for its next phase of life.
What is the Tabernacle?
The Tabernacle is a building rich with history, as a noteworthy Methodist church, a community venue and a neighbourhood space in the heart of Kingswood, Bristol. The Whitfield Tabernacle Trust has been working hard to adopt and restore the building, and explore local needs and wants for the space.

What is happening now?
If you have walked down Park Rd in Kingswood recently, you will have seen that it has emerged from its scaffolding and is now a refreshed heritage building. While work is ongoing we want to hear your thoughts! We know that the building will be a creative hub in the heart of Kingswood – but what this means is still open.
How do you want to use the space?
Do you want to take part in or even host classes and events? Are you passionate about seeing more live music and performance? Do you have a business or community group that needs space to grow? Are you a freelancer who wants a workspace? Are you a theatre maker, dancer, comedian or filmmaker who wants to showcase your work? Are you an enthusiastic audience member, or someone who wants to enjoy arts and creativity with your children, grandchildren or friends? Do you have other ideas for how it should be used?
Over the next few months we are asking local residents, workers, community groups, and businesses what they want to see happening in the Tabernacle. We really appreciate your time and input and can’t wait to celebrate the space with you once it is open.

Our Process
Bricks has been appointed to work on behalf of the Whitfield Tabernacle Trust to help create a new creative community hub in the revitalised Tabernacle building in South Gloucestershire.
In summer 2021 Bricks worked with the Trust to review creative and community opportunities for the site. Following a period of building work where the significant Grade I Listed heritage site was strengthened, reinforced, and weatherproofed, Bricks is now undertaking local community engagement to review the creative opportunities for the space once its next phase of building is complete. We are working with the Trust to develop an ambitious, sustainable, locally relevant, exciting and creative plan for the Tabernacle once it opens to the public.
The building’s redevelopment plays a key role in the revitalisation of Kingswood’s High Street, and will build on the site’s former uses. In line with the Trust’s vision, it will be a focal point for arts, education and heritage in Kingswood.
